Cinis Fertilizer secures power supply to the first production facility

16.05.2022
Cinis Fertilizer has signed an agreement with E.ON Energidistribution for a power connection to the company's first planned production facility for environmentally friendly potassium sulfate. The facility in Köpmanholmen will be powered by fossil-free electricity and the first in the world to produce a circular mineral fertilizer from waste products from pulp mills and electric car battery production.

Cinis Fertilizer is planning the construction of its first production facility for fossil-free and circular potassium sulfate in Köpmanholmen, south of Örnsköldsvik. The company has now entered into an agreement with E.ON Energidistribution regarding power supply to the production facility. The connection agreement secures Cinis Fertilizer's estimated need for 7MW of electricity.

- Our entire business idea is based on environmentally friendly mineral fertilizer production without emissions. Access to fossil-free electricity is an important piece of the puzzle to achieve this and we look forward to collaborating with E.ON in the continued work to establish our first production facility in Köpmanholmen, says Jakob Liedberg, CEO and founder of Cinis Fertilizer.

The power connection is to be completed well before the commissioning of the production facility, which is expected to take place during the second half of 2023.

- This is another example of E.ON enabling the green industrial revolution in Norrland. It is a large and important connection that contributes to not only an innovative solution and sustainable growth in the municipality but also to new jobs, both in the upcoming production facility and in the work of connecting it, says Martin Höhler, CEO E.ON Energidistribution.

The agreement means that E.ON's permitting and preparation work can now begin. For Cinis Fertilizer, the work to establish the planned production facility in Köpmanholmen continues.

- Large establishments of this kind require collaboration between several different players. The agreement on the power supply has now taken us one important step closer to the final goal of a large production facility and new jobs in the municipality, says municipal councilor Per Nylén (S).
